COOLERS AND VENDING MACHINES
When the sale of Coca-Cola in bottles first began around the turn of the century, it was the responsibilty of the retailer (often a grocer) to see that the bottles were kept chilled. It didn't take long for the bottler to figure out that if he supplied a grocer with a cooler just for Coca-Cola, then an ample supply of properly chilled bottles would always be available for thirsty customers. The first coolers made especially for bottled Coca-Cola were barrels that had been cut in half to form tubs.
